Salcombe 28th September 2013

from the train on the way.
Well, the dire weather forecast proved pretty accurate: it was certainly wet most of the day and there was no chance to swim. But to quote one of the 21 'victims' " an enjoyable jaunt...". We had shelter for coffee and, after a covered boat ride, for lunch. We reached Overbecks where the National Trust did us proud with a grand cream tea, an incredibly enormous Bath bun and then a most interesting tour round the house including a Polyphon one minute concert! Before that the weather had relented for half an hour or so to give us the chance to go around the magnificent 'temperate rain forest’ garden.

then it was off back to Totnes by minibus to the warm, welcoming and very good Barrel House restaurant. Time went quickly, the rain was outside not in and we caught our train home comfortably: "the ' cake on the train' variation was particularly welcome! ".

Other trips are suggested on David's website - you never know, the weather may be better.
