Salcombe Day Trip 28th Sept 2013 - 25th Sept UPDATE and confirmed itinerary


Thanks to all who have booked. FULL UP NOW. Thanks to all 23 of you who have now paid - that's everyone making about 25 on the day with Diana and myself.
REMEMBER Senior rail card IN DATE!!! and NT membership card and buspass .

NB WEATHER IS NOT GUARANTEED, distant forecast was cloudy but warmish, now it's more threatening even dire!                
To reach Salcombe on Saturday 28th Sept morning, we shall meet up at Redland station - walkable from Westbury Park (25 mins) but still free street parking near station north of the railway. Some of you may prefer to meet us Temple Meads (0825) - on Saturdays early buses are free to buspass holders  but car parking at Temple Meads is expensive. Cycle Parking is available. Read on for itinerary.

Proposed Itinerary will therefore be:
0740 meet at Redland Station
0745 train to Bristol Temple Meads arr.0755 (75p each to pay)
Time for Breakfast/Coffee at Bristol Temple Meads - super new Bakery Harts  'underneath the arches' might prove attractive:
0844 The Cross Country Plymouth train for Totnes.
1015 Arrive Totnes Station
1020 bus/minibus/taxi booked to take us to Kingsbridge (arr about 11.00)
Some of us will be going by public "Tally Ho!" Bus (10.38 from Totnes station and arriving 11.22)
Time in Kingsbridge to explore or take coffee.
1200 FERRY from Kingsbridge Town Quay down beautiful tidal waterway
to Salcombe (BRING your own packed lunch to eat on board).

1230 arrive Salcombe: WALKERS then walk towards  Overbeck (National Trust) - taking a swim on the way (if you want to) at South Beach and walking a splendid section of the South West Coastal Path.

TAXI ride alternative opportunity available to Overbeck (National Trust)
1500 meet up at Overbeck (National Trust). Time for Gardens and House before NT Cream Tea opportunity. 
1715 Minibus/taxi booked to take us to Totnes town from Overbecks.
1815 Supper opportunity in the Barrel House Kitchen (See website) with good veggie AND local chef food. We tried and enjoyed the food here for about £10. Alternative to restaurant meal is 'The Good Apple' - the special and well stocked local supermarket pies, salads etc. and there are also pubs close by. 
Time for comfortable walk down the hill to reach Totnes Station by 2000 for
2009 First Great Western Intercity 125 Train to Bristol Temple Meads 2147. We will provide something sweet for the journey.
Bus or shared taxi home or you can wait for the
2216 Redland train (75p railcard). Arrival due 2226
