Agatha Mystery Tour

Now less mysterious:

David and Diana's Day Out on Sunday 2nd October to the River Dart

FULLY BOOKED - preparations continue

23 return train tickets  to Totnes have been bought at pretty good prices: many of them at even better Senior Railcard prices.
We will meet up at Bristol Temple Meads Station at 08.20
And return to Temple Meads at 10pm
Direct train to Totnes at 10.15 where there is a choice:
For the active stroller, after a short look around Totnes, the plan is to walk along and above the River Dart to  Dittisham (8 1/2 miles) with a picnic lunch and short stop at a pub on the way.We have reconnoitred this: it can be done in the time BUT it is a hard if very beautiful walk with three quite steep and fairly long hills, a number of stiles before lunch and then two more hours after to reach the brief ferry to take us to Greenway - Agatha Christie's house (National Trust members free otherwise £7-80) for a (cream) tea where we all meet up, followed by a ferry to Dartmouth.
[We are investigating a wet weather/ less strenuous option] and
In any case  for the less active strollerthe alternative, after a look around Totnes (bus from outside station to River Bridge available at 1053), is to take the River Cruise ferry (which can be booked on the day) from Totnes at 11.45 to Dartmouth (arriving 1pm) and after picnic or lunch to take  a ferry at 2.15pm to Greenway - Agatha Christie's house (National Trust members free otherwise £7-80) for a (cream) tea, where we all meet up, followed by a return ferry to Dartmouth.
We all return from Dartmouth by mini-bus/taxi to Totnes Station for train at 7.56pm - after changing trains at Newton Abbot, back at Bristol 10pm.
